Russia and China to Align Medical Product Standards under New Healthcare Cooperation Deal
BEIJING, Russia and China are set to deepen cooperation in healthcare through a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to be signed later this month, aimed at harmonizing the quality and safety standards of medical products in both countries, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko announced.
Speaking at the Russian-Chinese Commission for Humanitarian Cooperation in Beijing on November 1, Murashko said, “The work carried out by the Russian Scientific Center for the Examination of Medical Products and the Chinese National Institute for Food and Drug Control has been completed. The signing of the MoU in late November will strengthen bilateral collaboration and bring our pharmacopeial standards for safety and quality closer together.”
The agreement is expected to lay the groundwork for future joint ventures and healthcare investments between Russian and Chinese medical institutions and companies.
Currently, more than 100 Chinese medications, over 600 pharmaceutical substances, and around 3,500 medical products from Chinese manufacturers are registered for use in Russia.
China’s Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) sector, known for its preventive treatment approach, continues to grow in global recognition. However, experts note that while TCM can be effective, active ingredients are sometimes unidentified, and responses can vary between individuals—a factor both sides aim to address through improved testing and regulatory alignment under the new framework
