Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Defense Forces, was awarded the King Abdulaziz Medal of the First Class by Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman on Sunday in Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The award follows a royal order from King Salman and recognizes Munir’s efforts in strengthening Saudi-Pakistani friendship, advancing joint cooperation, and enhancing bilateral relations.
The ceremony included discussions on historical ties, strategic defense collaboration, and promoting international peace and security. Pakistan’s military media wing highlighted that the medal also reflects Munir’s contributions toward regional stability and counter-terrorism efforts.
“The conferment of the King Abdulaziz Medal underscores the depth of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations and the shared determination to strengthen strategic cooperation for regional and global peace,” said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Munir thanked the Saudi leadership, describing the honor as a reflection of enduring Pakistan–Saudi Arabia ties, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Kingdom’s security, stability, and prosperity.
In recent months, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have pursued closer defense and economic ties, signing a historic strategic defense pact in September, under which an attack on one nation will be treated as an attack on both. In October, both countries agreed to launch an Economic Cooperation Framework to expand bilateral trade and investment.
