Indian national detained at Satkhira border with Tk 1.55 crore in gold paste

BGB recovers 813.50 grams of gold paste concealed inside his rectum

SATKHIRA — Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Indian national at the Bhomra International Check Post yesterday morning, recovering 813.50 grams of gold paste concealed internally with an estimated market value of Tk 1.55 crore.

The suspect has been identified as 43-year-old Zahir Shah Golam Hossain, a resident of Mumbai, India. According to investigators, Hossain was intercepted at approximately 9:00 AM as he attempted to cross the border from Bangladesh into India.

Intelligence reports prompted the operation. Acting on a tip-off regarding an ongoing smuggling attempt designed to evade customs duties at the immigration checkpoint, a specialized detachment from the 33 BGB Battalion deployed to the crossing.

Initially, the suspect denied carrying any contraband during preliminary questioning. Citing suspicious behavior, BGB personnel transferred Hossain to a local medical facility for a comprehensive physical examination. Subsequent X-ray imaging detected two distinct packets of gold paste hidden inside his rectum.

Lt. Col. Kazi Ashikur Rahman, commanding officer of the 33 BGB Battalion, confirmed the details of the seizure. He stated that the recovered gold paste weighed 813.50 grams and carried a valuation of Tk 1.55 crore.

Authorities confirmed that formal legal proceedings and smuggling charges against the detained Indian national are currently underway.
