UN Chief Names Hanaa Singer-Hamdy as New Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Mali

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Hanaa Singer-Hamdy of Egypt as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mali, effective January 24, with the approval of the host government. She will also take on the role of Humanitarian Coordinator.
Singer-Hamdy previously served as the UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal from 2022, where she led the UN country team in strengthening development cooperation and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with the Nepali government and national stakeholders. Before that, she held the same position in Sri Lanka between 2018 and 2022.
Bringing more than 30 years of senior leadership experience, Singer-Hamdy has worked extensively in development, humanitarian response, peacebuilding, and post-conflict environments. Her career includes several senior roles with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), notably as Country Representative in Nepal, Syria, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, as well as Associate Regional Director in Geneva.
Her appointment marks a continuation of her long-standing engagement in complex and high-priority UN missions worldwide.
