PM Amarsuriya Inspects Cyclone Ditwah Flood Damage at University of Peradeniya

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarsuriya on Sunday inspected flood damage at the University of Peradeniya and held detailed discussions with Vice Chancellor Prof. Terrance Mudajith on the situation facing the institution.
The visit was aimed at assessing the extent of damage caused by the overflow of the Mahaweli River following Cyclone Ditwah. Discussions focused on formulating a comprehensive restoration plan with clearly defined short-, medium- and long-term priorities.
Under the short-term programme, priority will be given to the rapid reopening of faculties that were not directly affected by the floods, officials said.
During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor provided a detailed briefing on damage to university buildings and property, including the Faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, the Computer Centre—which suffered extensive damage—the CDEC, the Gymnasium, and the Sarasavi Medura Hostel. He also outlined ongoing cleanup efforts across the campus.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Nalaka Kaluwewa, Kandy District Member of Parliament Thanura Dissanayake, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Ranjith Pallegama, directors of postgraduate institutes, the acting registrar, and student representatives.
