Ousted Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli Re-elected as Party Chief

Nepal’s former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has been re-elected as leader of his political party, securing a decisive mandate to oversee preparations for national elections scheduled for next year.
Members of the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) voted during a two-day general convention in the capital, Kathmandu, where Oli won by a landslide.
The 73-year-old veteran politician returned to the party’s top post months after stepping down as prime minister following a youth-led uprising in September that brought down his government. Nepal is set to hold parliamentary elections in March, with a caretaker administration currently running the country.
