At least four dead as launches collide on Meghna River in Chandpur

Dense fog caused the collision; several injured, says police

At least four people were killed, and several were injured when two launches collided in dense fog on the Meghna river in Chandpur early Friday.

The Dhaka-bound MV Zakir Samrat-3, which had departed from Ghosherhat in Bhola, was crossing the Haimchar area shortly after 2am when the accident occurred. Unable to navigate due to heavy fog, the Barishal-bound MV Adventure-9 struck the vessel with force.

Dhaka district River Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the incident, saying bodies of a woman and three men had been recovered.
