British tourist rescued from strong currents at Mirissa Beach

Colombo: A 65-year-old British national was rescued after nearly drowning at Mirissa Beach yesterday (11), police said.

The incident occurred around noon within the Kotawila Police Division when the tourist was caught in a strong current and dragged out to sea.

Officers attached to the Kotawila Police Lifeguard Unit, who were on duty at the time, promptly intervened and managed to bring the foreign national safely back to shore.
