Pakistan Hands Over New Computer Lab to Gyanodaya Secondary School in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Pakistan has handed over a newly established computer laboratory to Gyanodaya Secondary School in Purano Kalimati, Bafal, reinforcing its long-standing support for digital education in Nepal. The facility was inaugurated on Friday by Pakistan’s Ambassador Abrar H. Hashmi.

Funded by the people of Pakistan, the initiative aims to expand ICT learning opportunities for Nepali students. The ceremony was attended by former Nepal Rastra Bank governor and former National Planning Commission vice-chairperson Dr. Deependra Bahadur Chhetri, Ward 13 Chairperson Dhruba Narayan Manandhar, Head of District Education Coordination Dr. Samantamani Acharya, KMC Education Division Head Keshav Gyawali, School Principal Vishnu Ghimire Rimal, along with teachers, community members, and local leaders.

The school expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s continued educational support, recalling that Pakistan had first donated a computer lab in 2013, which has served students for 12 years. The new lab features 42 brand-new computers, new furniture, and upgraded flooring. The earlier lab, refurbished by the school, has now been shifted to the primary section to expand early digital literacy.

Ambassador Hashmi commended the school’s leadership and community for their dedication and effective management, saying their efforts had delivered “visible and sustainable educational outcomes.” Addressing students, he urged them to embrace digital skills—including artificial intelligence, e-commerce, fintech, and innovation—while remaining connected to their cultural roots.

Students and local representatives also welcomed the announcement of a ‘Nepal–Pakistan Friendship Society’ at the school, along with the embassies plan to support music and sports programs. According to the embassy, these initiatives will further strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
