Pakistan and Turkey have agreed to significantly boost bilateral rice trade by focusing on competitive pricing, higher export volumes, and stronger business-to-business ties as part of wider efforts to deepen economic cooperation.<\/p>\n
The understanding was reached during talks between Pakistan\u2019s Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and the Turkish ambassador, where both sides explored ways to enhance rice exports between the two countries.<\/p>\n
Discussions centred on increasing export volumes while maintaining price competitiveness in global markets.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Commerce said the initiative follows instructions from the prime minister to promote agricultural exports. Officials noted that Pakistan has recorded one of its strongest rice harvests in recent years, creating a substantial export surplus for international buyers.<\/p>\n
Pakistan assured Turkey of a reliable supply of both basmati and non-basmati rice at competitive rates, while aiming to expand exports without harming farmers\u2019 incomes.<\/p>\n
The talks also addressed raising the rice export quota by 18,000 metric tons under the Pakistan\u2013Turkey Free Trade Agreement. Both sides examined the possibility of zero or reduced tariffs on basmati rice to further stimulate trade.<\/p>\n
Pakistan said it would consider multiple options for rice exports at the government-to-government level. The two countries reaffirmed their shared goal of increasing overall bilateral trade to $5 billion, with agriculture identified as a key growth sector.<\/p>\n
They also agreed to expand business delegations and strengthen B2B connections to support trade development.<\/p>\n
