Cop injured in Nowhatta encounter

Srinagar: A cop was injured during an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Nowhatta area of Srinagar on Sunday on the eve of the Independence Day, police said.

A police official said bike-borne terrorists fired at a police party near Redpora Park, Sazgari Pora Nowhatta, which was retaliated.
During encounter, one policeman sustained injuries, the official said.
Police recovered a motorcycle and an AK rifle from the spot, he said.
Meanwhile, a police man died in a grenade blast in south Kashmir’s Kulgam area.
A Police man who was critically injured in yesterday grenade attack by terrorists at Qaimph area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, officials said.
They said that a police personnel identified as Tahir Khan from Mendhar Poonch was injured last evening as terrorists hurled a grenade towards a police party near Petrol pump in Qaimoh, Kulgam.
“The injured was shifted to Government Medical Collage Anantnag where he succumbed today morning,” he said.
“#A grenade incident was reported yesterday night in Qaimoh #Kulgam. In this #terror incident, 01 police personnel namely Tahir Khan R/O Mendhar, Poonch got injured. He was shifted to GMC hospital #Anantnag for treatment where he succumbed & attained #martyrdom,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
Elsewhere, an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Sujan Hill area of Rajouri District in Jammu Division on Sunday evening, officials said.
They said that a team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Sujan Hill on a very specific input.
As the joint team approached towards the suspected area, the hiding terrorists fired upon the party leading to an encounter, officer added.
The operation was still going on in the area, officials added.
