The wait is over! ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ to release in cinemas on October 13

We finally have a release date for the highly-anticipated Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan-starrer, The Legend of Maula Jatt. The Bilal Lashari directorial, which also stars Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick and Mirza Gohar Rasheed in pivotal roles will hit the cinemas on October 13, stated a press release.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is by far the most expensive film to come out of Pakistan. This intense and epic hero origin story, with a screenplay by Bilal Lashari and dialogues by Nasir Adeeb, is a hard reboot of the 1979 cult classic ‘Maula Jatt’. The film is directed by Lashari, known for his directorial debut, the box office megahit film Waar and produced by Ammara Hikmat under the joint venture of Encyclomedia & Lashari films in association with AAA Motion Pictures.

Previously, the makers of the film hinted at the release of the upcoming project. Responding to the rumours, producer Ammarah Hikmat and actor Mirza Gohar Rasheed took to social media and shared their own take on the matter. While Rasheed took a jibe, Hikmat shared there will be no announcements. “This time no announcements, only surprises!” the producer shared on Instagram alongside a Pakistani flag.

The Legend of Maula Jatt was initially announced in 2013. Nine years later, the film is yet to be released. Earlier this year, The Legend of Maula Jatt was finally free from all the legal entanglement after Sarwer Bhatti, the producer of the original film withdrew all cases. Bhatti has denied all rumors of a financial settlement between himself and the producers of the film. Bhatti instead attributes the decision to his desire for the welfare of local cinema.

The movie’s first look teaser released in 2019 managed to receive a thunderous response worldwide for its cinematic grandeur, exceptional star cast and mega-scale production. Starring Fawad in the role of the legendary Maula Jatt and Hamza as his arch nemesis, Noori Natt, the film reimagines cinema’s greatest rivalry.

Much like Maula Jatt and Wehshi Jatt, the film is a retelling of Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi’s Urdu play Gandasa. Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Shafqat Cheema and Nayyer Ejaz are some of the other leading names that add to the film’s ensemble star cast.
