Clad in Shalwar Kameez this time, Bollywood’s up for another road trip

While we wait with bated breath for Zoya Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa, Taapsee Pannu has announced another Bollywood road trip and this one has women clad in helmets and shalwar kameez on motorbikes. Directed by Tarun Dudeja, Dhak Dhak will follow four women and their life-changing journey to the highest motorable pass in the world. Breaking stereotypes, the film will see actors Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Dia Mirza and Sanjana Sanghi in lead roles riding their way to freedom.

On Monday, Pannu’s production house, Outsiders Films announced the film on social media. As a producer, Pannu shared that she aims to make films that are meaningful and entertaining. “We have attempted to give audiences a visual experience that they have rarely seen on screen. Dhak Dhak narrates the story of four women who realise that freedom has to be owned and never given.”

She further went on to credit Viacom18 studios for being onboard for her films. “Viacom18 Studios has been a crucial part of my journey in the film industry from Chashme Baddoor, Shabaash Mithu and now to Dhak Dhak. I am sure that this ride will be an enriching one,” the actor said in a statement.

The COO of Viacom18 Studios, Ajit Andhare, also called the film “a perfect script” that resonated with their standards of storytelling. “Dhak Dhak is a heart-warming story of four women undertaking a trip breaking out of their cocoons & discovering themselves through this journey of introspection & adventure. This was the perfect script and resonates well with the DNA of our storytelling.”

The women centred film is slated to hit cinemas next year.

On the acting front, Pannu has Shabaash Mithu up for release next, while she’ll also star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. Her other releases include Do Baaraa, Blurr and Tadka.
