Govt orders closure of all educational institutes till May 15

Srinagar, Apr 18: The government Sunday ordered closure of all Colleges and Universities following the spike in COVID-19 cases across Jammu and Kashmir.State Executive Committee (SEC) Member Secretary, Simrandeep Singh said that all Schools, Universities and Colleges in Jammu and Kashmir shall remain closed for physical academic activities till May-15.“All Universities and Colleges in JK shall remain closed for imparting on-campus and in-person education to the students till May 15 except for the courses or programs that require physical presence of students on account of laboratory, research, thesis work and internship,” Singh said in an order.He also said that the colleges shall move to online mode and the Schools across Jammu and Kashmir shall continue to remain closed for imparting on- campus and in-person education to the students till May-15.Singh said that the decision was taken after conducting a detailed review of the current COVID-19 situation in Jammu and Kashmir by the lieutenant governor with the Chief Secretary, JK Financial Commissioner, Health; Administrative Secretary School Education, Administrative Secretary Higher Education; Divisional Commissioner and other officers.Besides educational establishments, the government in an order also said that the ceiling on the number of people permitted to attend gatherings and functions shall be 20 in case of funerals and 50 for all kinds of gatherings at indoor venues and 100 for all kinds of gatherings at outdoor venues.“Matadors, buses, mini buses and other modes of public transport shall ply strictly as per their registered and authorized seating capacity, no standing will be allowed,” read the new guidelines.SEC ordered the respective District Superintendents of Police to ensure that the guidelines are strictly complied with and punitive measures are taken under relevant provisions of the Law.The government said, “The existing guideline for compulsory testing of all incoming passengers shall be strongly enforced, that includes all passengers or travelers coming to JK, whether by rail, road or air will have to compulsorily undergo a COVID-19 antigen test through any of the prescribed methods as per the protocol.” Singh said that all District Magistrates (DMs) shall put in place an effective mechanism to ensure COVID-19 appropriate behavior in all crowded markets, shopping complexes and malls.“In this regard, necessary cooperation and support of the local Bazar, market associations may also be taken and the market associations are encouraged to voluntarily try to stagger openings, timings, schedules to reduce crowds,” the government said.The SEC said that strict action will be taken if anyone is found violating the guidelines.
