Govt extends closure of all schools till April 18

Srinagar, Apr 11: Amid spike in COVID-19 cases, the government Sunday extended closure of all schools for offline classes’ upto 12th standard till April 18.Member of State Executive Committee (SEC), Simrandeep Singh said that the government has assessed the overall situation of COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir and has decided to extend the closure of all schools till April-18.“On basis of the COVID-19 assessment, the SEC in exercise of the powers conferred under section-24 of Disaster Management Act, 2005, all schools of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory shall remain closed for imparting on-campus and in-person education to the students of all classes till April-18,” Singh said in an order issued on Sunday.“It is clarified that the closure of schools does not prohibit the conduct of any scheduled examination during this period by any conducting body or the institution provided the existing COVID-19 norms, adequate social distancing and sanitization is being   followed properly,” states the order.Pertinently, earlier on April 4th, the government had ordered closure of all schools in Jammu and Kashmir, wherein elementary classes’ up to 9th standard were ordered to shut the schools for two weeks and secondary and higher secondary classes for one week respectively.The secondary and higher secondary classes from 10th to 12th standard were scheduled to open from April-12.
